Harvey Milk Day Anyone?

Kevin's Birthday, May 22nd, may become California's new State Holiday to celebrate Harvey Milk, who was the first openly gay elected official.

So instead of celebrating a holiday for a respected leader, like Harriet Tubman Day, the bill has been passed for the State Senate to have a holiday for a man that most of the population has never heard of...

To me, the sad thing is that the holiday will have to play a role in public school and other educational institutes, and "encourages those entities to conduct suitable commemorative exercises on that date."

I agree with what Sen. Dave Cox, who voted against the measure. "In school, we ought to concentrate on writing, reading and arithmetic,", and that schools don't need other requirements placed on them by the Legislature.

So all you Californian's out there, call Gov. Schwarzenegger's office and give him your support to veto this holiday. We don't need the headache!!!
