James and I love Pride & Prejudice! He has put his foot down and told me I cannot name our son Darcy (mostly because it's a girls name) or our daughter Jane or Elizabeth (mostly because he doesn't want a Jack and a Jane, and we already have a neice Elizabella) - but that doesn't stop us from being avid fans of the book and movies.
Did you know these fun facts about Pride and Prejudice???
(These are from the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth.)
-The actor who plays the charming Mr. Bingley (Crispen Bonham-Carter) originally auditioned for the role of Mr. Wickam.
-Miss Bingley (Anna Chancellor?) is actually related to Jane Austen. She is a direct descendant of Austen's elder brother, Edward.
-The actress who plays Lydia is actually a year older than the actress who plays Elizabeth (even though Elizabeth is supposed to be 5 years older than Lydia)
-The actresses who play Mrs. Gardiner and Darcy's sister Georgianna are real life mother and daughter.
-Colin Firth initially declined the offer to play the role of Mr. Darcy. He luckily changed his mind.
The newest version of Pride and Prejudice is another favorite of ours with some other interesting facts.
-The actress playing Georgianna did all her own piano playing in the film
-The scene where Bingley rehearses proposing to Jane was improvised. Initially, it was supposed to be shorter, but they did such a good job that it was lengthened
-Matthew Macfayden, who plays Mr. Darcy, has very poor eyesight. In the misty morning shot, the director was behind the camera waving a red flag so Macfadyen knew where to walk.
- Emma Thompson (Who plays Eleanor in Sense & Sensibility) did an uncredited and unpaid re-write of the script. She receives a "Special Thanks" credit at the end of the film. One of the two scenes that Emma Thompson wrote was the scene in which Charlotte Lucas tells Elizabeth Bennet that she will marry Mr. Collins. The other one is the scene in which Elizabeth Bennet tries to tell Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner and Darcy about Lydia's elopement with Wickham. Here Elizabeth's walking in and out of the room was Emma Thompson's idea.
-The actress playing Lydia is also a year older than the actress playing Elizabeth in this film as well.
-Rosamund Pike turned down the role of Rita Skeeter in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire to play Jane instead.
-At the beginning of the movie, Elizabeth is shown reading a novel titled "First Impressions" - this was Jane Austen's original title of her novel before she altered it to "Pride and Prejudice".
